MakeUp Revolution Ultra Contour Palette Review

Makeup Revolution Ultra contour Palette

First of all i must admit that I'm super excited to finally own a complete contour kit- why? because here in the UK we don't have easy access to Anastasia Beverly Hills/ NYX contour kits etc.

And to top it all off this only costs £8. I bought mine from Superdrugs, and delivery arrived within 4 days =D. Its also available straight from the Makeup Revolution website.

Packaging is beautiful- its sleek and compact, and just so easy to take with you on the go! i was expecting the cheap plastic packaging that you get in most palettes such as the coastal scents/sedona lace palettes- but it is very good quality. the packaging is slightly heavier than i expected and very sturdy.

Taking a look inside:

The palette contains a full sized mirror, 6 pressed powder shades and 2 baked highlighters.

Doesn't it just look beautiful?

From the top row, the first 2 highlighting contour shades are matte and pigmented. The first shade is slightly pinkish and would be a perfect setting powder for very fair to light medium skin tones.

The much loved yellow 'banana' powder would be great for highlighting for medium to darker skin tones. The powders are excellent quality! i get no fallout whatsoever, nor is there a great mess created whenever i dip my brush into any of the shades! I did find however that the first shade was slightly more pigmented than the yellow shade. These 2 shades remind me of the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit which began the battle of the contour kits.

The 3rd shade in the top row, is a beautiful pinky toned highlight with a luminous sheen to it. Its the type of highlight i would use when you do NOT want that 'BOOM' on the cheek bones- i personally prefer to use it on the nose and forehead for that beautiful sheen without looking like a disco ball.

A toned down highlight

This baked HIGHLIGHTING powder is just....OMG! where do i begin?? Its super pigmented! i mean crazy pigmented- when i first used it there was just way too much on one cheek. literally one swipe is enough for both cheeks and probably the rest of the face too! Its a beautiful silver frosty shade, with fine golden glitter- which is not chunky. its gorgeous. My advice would be to use a light hand ;)

Not for the faint hearted!

2nd row, Contour shades

The contour shades are in the second row of the palette. containing a  variety of tones. The first shade is a dark warm toned brown which would works great on medium skin tones- but I'm not sure if it would work on the very deep tones.

The 2nd shade is a light cool toned brown colour- great for light to media skin tones- and it is beautiful- it blends effortlessly onto the face and gives that contoured appearance.

The final contour shade is a darker cool brown.

Again all the contour shades blended wonderfully and no problems with powderiness, they are smooth to the touch, the only thing i would point out is that the contour shades seem to be very similar in shades- there is one for light skin tones, and the other 2 seem very similar in shade, but they differ in tones. So what about those with much deeper skin?

The final shade is a bronzy highlight- and looks very similar to the 1st highlight shade (1st row 3rd along). The slight difference being that this one is less pinky in tone.

A comparison the 3 highlights in the palette:

OVERALL RATING: 9/10

Generally this is something i would definitely recommend! its a great palette to have with a matching price. colours are smooth and pigmented and most importantly blend out wonderfully on the skin. Hands down the best contour kit in the drugstore at the moment

My thoughts on the smoky palette:

After waiting absolutely ages for the UD Smoky palette to finally arrive in the UK- i just had to pre-order it from Debenhams!

And lo and behold after about a month of using this palette i can finally come to the conclusion that i love it! <3

The palette can be purchased from debenhams or directly from the Urban Decay website. It comes with a double ended brush- a blending brush on one end and a pencil brush on the other. as always a great brush which works great.

But i secretly wished that it came with something else too- perhaps a primer or a mini 24/7 eye-liner (**wishful thinking**)

Retail price: £38
Overall rating: 9/10

Packaging

Rating: ***** (5/5)

A plastic palette with a beautiful design featuring an embossed NAKED sign. the packaging is rectangular with straight edges. its beautiful packaging, going with the smoky theme, and in my opinion is a lot classier than the other Naked palettes. It has a magnetic closure which is not flimsy. It also comes with a large mirror- which can come in handy. Overall sturdy packaging that cannot go wrong.

Inside:

Eyeshadows

The palette contains a wonderful variety of 12 eyeshadows- varying from shimmer to mattes. and boy are they pigmented! UD eyeshadows have to be one of the best shadows in the market and this palette doesn't disappoint. Lets have a closer look at each shadow

Swatches of all 12 shades- no primer

High, Dirtysweet, Radar

High, Dirtysweet, Radar- swatched, no primer

  • High is a beautiful glittery shade which is pigmented and is reminiscent of the Urban decay eyeshadows which contain slightly larger chunks of glitter- but this is by no means a bad thing- its absolutely stunning in the inner corner or as a brow bone highlight.

  • Dirtysweet- is one of my favourites from the palette, it is a stunning gold, which is a staple for us brown eyed asian girls. but what had me hooked was the texture of the shadow- dirtysweet has a wonderful buttery texture which glides effortlessly onto your fingers and applies like a dream. i prefer to apply this one with my fingers rather than a brush as it feels so good.

  • Radar- i must admit that this brown shimmery shadow was a slight disappointment- the pigmentation is not as strong compared to the other 11 shades, but it does contain small specks of gold micro-glitter.
Armor, Slanted, Dagger, Black market

Armor, Slanted, Dagger, Black market- no primer
Can we just take a moment with these babies!! like woooah such beautiful unique colours!

  • Armor- this is another one of those slightly chunkier glittery shades! but OMG i am in love- this is another one of my faves from this palette. Its a stunning grey shade with silver glitter- which looks gorgeous as a main lid colour- suitable for all eye colours-but I'm guessing it will look stunning on the blue-eyed gals out there.
  • Slanted- a wonderful bluish-grey shade, and this has that amazing smooth buttery texture that i mentioned with dirtysweet.
  • Black market- this is quiet a cool shade, in the sense that it appears as a black in the palette but when watched it has the beautiful sheen of a dark blue- great for creating a smokey eye with the armour or slanted- or in fact any colour from the shades.

  • Smolder- i really wanted this to be a true purple shade which is the UD distinctive shade, but instead its a smoky greyish purple. but if you apply it with a damp brush more of the purple starts to come out.
  • Password- a beautiful matte grey- this shade is really unique and i love that its matte.the texture is smooth and it blends like a dream in the crease.

I loved that UD decided to place these wonderful matte shades in the palette- this just makes the whole palette wearable and means you don't need to rely on other palettes to complete the look. It also means that you can make a variety of shades including neutral day looks as well as the smokey looks.

  • Whiskey- a cool toned medium brown shade, pigmentation is on point and it blends beautifully

  • Combust- a cool toned nude shade, very similar to my skin shade- it works well as a transition shade, but can also be used to correct mistakes- when i have applied too much shadow in the crease i can just add this with a blending brush to dampen down the colour.

  • Thirteen- a light matte shade which works brilliantly as a brow bone highlight.

Pigmentation: ***** (5/5)
Longevity: ***** (5/5)

Overall eyeshadow rating- ***** (5/5)

Generally the colours that have been selected are spot on- these a wide variety of looks that can be created and you really can't get bored of this.

Should i buy this if i have the other 3 naked palletes?
The colours are similar to the naked 1, in the sense that there are neutrals, golds, browns and some hues of blue- so do you need it- if I'm completely honest no, but if you're a makeup lover or just want to collect the palettes- go ahead, you won't regret it. you also get the wonderful greys which are in fashion ;)

Let me know your thoughts and experiences xx
