My thoughts on the smoky palette:
After waiting absolutely ages for the UD Smoky palette to finally arrive in the UK- i just had to pre-order it from Debenhams!
And lo and behold after about a month of using this palette i can finally come to the conclusion that i love it! <3
The palette can be purchased from debenhams or directly from the Urban Decay website. It comes with a double ended brush- a blending brush on one end and a pencil brush on the other. as always a great brush which works great.
But i secretly wished that it came with something else too- perhaps a primer or a mini 24/7 eye-liner (**wishful thinking**)
Retail price: £38

Packaging
Rating: ***** (5/5)
A plastic palette with a beautiful design featuring an embossed NAKED sign. the packaging is rectangular with straight edges. its beautiful packaging, going with the smoky theme, and in my opinion is a lot classier than the other Naked palettes. It has a magnetic closure which is not flimsy. It also comes with a large mirror- which can come in handy. Overall sturdy packaging that cannot go wrong.
Inside:
Eyeshadows
The palette contains a wonderful variety of 12 eyeshadows- varying from shimmer to mattes. and boy are they pigmented! UD eyeshadows have to be one of the best shadows in the market and this palette doesn't disappoint. Lets have a closer look at each shadow
Swatches of all 12 shades- no primer |
High, Dirtysweet, Radar |
High, Dirtysweet, Radar- swatched, no primer |
- High is a beautiful glittery shade which is pigmented and is reminiscent of the Urban decay eyeshadows which contain slightly larger chunks of glitter- but this is by no means a bad thing- its absolutely stunning in the inner corner or as a brow bone highlight.
- Dirtysweet- is one of my favourites from the palette, it is a stunning gold, which is a staple for us brown eyed asian girls. but what had me hooked was the texture of the shadow- dirtysweet has a wonderful buttery texture which glides effortlessly onto your fingers and applies like a dream. i prefer to apply this one with my fingers rather than a brush as it feels so good.
- Radar- i must admit that this brown shimmery shadow was a slight disappointment- the pigmentation is not as strong compared to the other 11 shades, but it does contain small specks of gold micro-glitter.
Armor, Slanted, Dagger, Black market |
Armor, Slanted, Dagger, Black market- no primer |
- Armor- this is another one of those slightly chunkier glittery shades! but OMG i am in love- this is another one of my faves from this palette. Its a stunning grey shade with silver glitter- which looks gorgeous as a main lid colour- suitable for all eye colours-but I'm guessing it will look stunning on the blue-eyed gals out there.
- Slanted- a wonderful bluish-grey shade, and this has that amazing smooth buttery texture that i mentioned with dirtysweet.
- Black market- this is quiet a cool shade, in the sense that it appears as a black in the palette but when watched it has the beautiful sheen of a dark blue- great for creating a smokey eye with the armour or slanted- or in fact any colour from the shades.
- Smolder- i really wanted this to be a true purple shade which is the UD distinctive shade, but instead its a smoky greyish purple. but if you apply it with a damp brush more of the purple starts to come out.
- Password- a beautiful matte grey- this shade is really unique and i love that its matte.the texture is smooth and it blends like a dream in the crease.
I loved that UD decided to place these wonderful matte shades in the palette- this just makes the whole palette wearable and means you don't need to rely on other palettes to complete the look. It also means that you can make a variety of shades including neutral day looks as well as the smokey looks.
- Whiskey- a cool toned medium brown shade, pigmentation is on point and it blends beautifully
- Combust- a cool toned nude shade, very similar to my skin shade- it works well as a transition shade, but can also be used to correct mistakes- when i have applied too much shadow in the crease i can just add this with a blending brush to dampen down the colour.
- Thirteen- a light matte shade which works brilliantly as a brow bone highlight.

Overall eyeshadow rating- ***** (5/5)
Generally the colours that have been selected are spot on- these a wide variety of looks that can be created and you really can't get bored of this.
Should i buy this if i have the other 3 naked palletes?
The colours are similar to the naked 1, in the sense that there are neutrals, golds, browns and some hues of blue- so do you need it- if I'm completely honest no, but if you're a makeup lover or just want to collect the palettes- go ahead, you won't regret it. you also get the wonderful greys which are in fashion ;)
